A calibration service is a service aimed at detecting the inaccuracy and uncertainty of a measuring instrument or piece of equipment. In calibration, the device under test (DUT) is compared to a reference of known value to determine the deviation of the measurement from the true value.

The primary significance of calibration is that it maintains accuracy, standardization and repeatability in measurements, assuring reliable benchmarks and results. Without regular calibration, equipment can fall out of specifications, provide inaccurate measurements and threaten quality, safety and equipment longevity.

The device used to calibrate other instruments is known as a calibrator. Calibrators vary in form and function depending on the instruments with which they are designed to work. 

An accelerometer is an electromechanical transducer that produces at its output terminals an electrical output proportional to the acceleration to which it is subjected. The output signal can be electronically processed and read on a meter or some other suitable indicating device.
